‘Tis the season for awards in NYC! I was honored to be the “plus-one” of Tony-nominee (and my fabulous collaborator) Camille A. Brown at last night’s Chita Rivera Awards. The fact that Camille was presenting the SDC Director Award to my dear friend and mentor, George C. Wolfe, made it extra special. I was also thrilled to cheer on the nominees from my production of IF PRETTY HURTS…: Raja Feather Kelly, nominated for Outstanding Choreographer, and the entire cast of the show, nominated for Outstanding Ensemble - Off-Broadway.
The annual New Dramatists luncheon is always such a treat. I love catching up with with friends, sharing all the latest news, laughs…and a glass of wine or 2…… It all began many moons ago with these two, and here we are today! Thank you George C. Wolfe, Shelby Jiggetts-Tivony, and New Dramatists!
I’m so proud of this production, and it’s nice to know that this important story is resonating with audience and critics alike. Here’s a bit of what they’re saying:
So excited to direct a reading of playwright Doug Langworthy’s translation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Pt. 1 for Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s ambitious Play On! Festival. The reading is presented in partnership with Classic Stage Company, on Friday, May 31st. Thank you to the ever-brilliant Lue Douthit, whose brainchild this extraordinary undertaking is! For full detalls about all 39 readings taking place from May 29 trough June 30, visit playonfestival.org
During last year’s Pacific Playwright’s Festival at South Coast Rep, I had the joy of working with Kevin Artigue on his brilliant, haunting and important new play, SHEEPDOG. We’ve spent the past year workshopping the play and I’m so excited to begin rehearsals for its premiere as part of this year’s PPF! Find out more about the play and production on SCR’s website!
